The TEENS (1972 - 1979)
"You can trust your car to the man
who wears the star ...." First real job -
ages 16-18.
One of Ken's 2 daughters, Amy, who was in the same grade as me, said
that her dad was looking for someone to work at his station. I was 16 and
in need of a job (my dad had also let it be known that this wouldn't be
such a bad idea). I took the job - my first real job. Kenny was a great man,
a wonderful role model and I sure learned a lot from him. We were like
family there at the corner of Fairview & Calle Real and I became very close
to Kenny. I used to go over to his house and have dinner with his family.
Kenny, sadly, died of cancer a few years back.
Jody Raye Mendez (Jenaraye) - my first girlfriend. A very special
and talented person. Our initial high school relationship was
perhaps a little over a year in length, but we continued to
cross paths for years after. We had our share of emotional
and sometimes volatile extremes - makes me take a few deep
breaths. Looking back is hard, painful and mostly regretful.
Senior year and "Two Gentlemen from Verona"
Voted "most likely to become a recording star" (received a soap shower mic)
Christopher Michael Martin (yes, we shared the same middle name and I just remembered that!). We were the best of childhood friends. We
were inseparable for most of our elementary school years through junior high. I can't tell you how many songs we sang together; what we saw in
those clouds that we watched from our backs on the school yard field; how much laughter we roared; and how much in our future we new was going
to come true. We experienced so many "firsts" together. We supported each other the best that we could. He was the first of my adopted "brothers".
Arthur Villa - We had an
eventful couple of years
together as best friends.
Needless to explore any
further, as we were a very
irreverent duo. We moved
up to Washington State
together -
Marcy and I share the same birthday 9/18
Talk about innocent! Such a cutie and
with an absolutely priceless giggle.
What a difference a year makes!
Julie and I were just "friends" during that day trip to Solvang. One year
later and after my boy to man transformation, we're an item and doing
the town on Fiesta. Our relationship peaked that night and soon lost
all momentum. It was a curious, fun and interesting time though.
WING -
Such the guy!
I met him through
my job at the
Texaco station.
He owned the
greatest Chinese
restaurant -
"Wings",
where I was
alway treated as
a VIP!
First electric razor (not that I needed it!)
After I totaled the Civic, I got $1,000 - Just
enough to cover a Honda 275 enduro & a helmet
(riding with a helmet was still optional in California).
Diana Bacon - the "Wild Card"

Luau on APS
I wasn't always the nicest guy
toward Julie Rose. Most likely
because she was stealing the
attention of one of my best
friends (and her future husband).
Smart girl - Fun girl
Chris, me and Art (rare to be together).
