NANA - My Great Grandmother, Hattie Hartford.

Fondest   memories:
her  summer home  in  Santa Cruz;  beach combing  and searching for sea glass;
her  abstract mosaic artwork;  the  exploding  with  color  flower garden;  taking  a
shower in the garage; jelly served out  of a nice container (not straight  out of the
jar!). The early morning fog horn and her hearty laugh - amazing!
Grandpa Lee   -  I  loved  to  be
around this man.  He was kind of
"crusty",  yet  a  true gentleman.
Fondest   memories:    His   daily
solitaire    battles   held   at   the
kitchen   table  against  that dog
gone  "China man";  reading the
Sacramento Bee  (including  the
"funnies");   his   eyes   closed  -
listening  intensely  to  the radio,
while conducting a classical tune
from  his  living  room  chair;  his
salty    language    on   the   golf
course;   his  deep smoke cured
voice and articulation.

Fast asleep in the back of the
station wagon with cousin Kenny.
Frying up my the first fish I ever
caught (Santa Ynez river Trout)
My  Dad  (Mike)    -    I    wanted   to   be  just  like him;
handsome,  a  wonderful singer,  great  storyteller and
oh so charismatic.

The best feeling?   When  he'd   return  home   from  a
business trip  and  give  me  a big "bear hug" with love
pats on my back. It  felt  soooooo  good!  Runner ups?
Being  carried   to  bed  like  a  "sack of potatoes" then
thrown  on  my bed;  walking  to  the  store  together in
search  of  black  licorice;   catching   that  last football
pass that  he  would  launch way  way up into  the sky!
Watching sports together  -  just being together.
The 'ol Rotary phone ya know?

In "my World"
Night out with Mom - Everyone
ALWAYS said very nice  things
about JoAnn

She  played  second   fiddle  to
my  dad  and  not   deservingly
so, as she worked so hard in a
"man's world" to raise us 4 kids.

She  took me to classic movies
like   "National  Velvet",     "The
Yearling", "Sound of Music", the
"Exorcist" (YIKES!)...   She took
me to the theater,  where  often
times  she  was the STAR.  She
took   me   to   the   "Big Apple".
When  we  went  camping at the
beach  a   friend   would always
be  welcomed   to  come  along.
Her  scalp rubs   were  soothing
and   her   love  for   me   deep,
emotional and true.
