Port Angeles (1985 - 1987)
Taking it all in - Port Angeles and the Olympic Mountains from the "hook"
|
I had traveled to this area (the Olympic
Peninsula) before, but it wasn't until my
transfer from a Pay 'n Save in Olympia
to Port Angles in 1985, that I began
what was to be a very unique and vivid
chapter in my life.

We called our pool team "Los Guys". No doubt we were
the craziest thing that league had ever seen. We were
out of control! If we won a match, we'd Dog Pile.

Yes - that's an American Motors Pacer (deluxe model)
Bob Anderson - Bob's wife and
Richard's wife are sisters and they all
migrated up from Sacramento. Bob
was one of the mellowest guys I've ever
known. He had a way of really setting
you at ease, underscoring the quiet
beauty of things - He was always
enjoyable company. He had two great
dogs, a set of twin boys, a truck, a cool
pistol and a comfortable house with a
warm wood stove. After I got fired from
my job, I basically let myself go - was
getting fat! Bob said, "Kevin, go out
and take a nice walk every day and
you'll see. Before you know it you'll be
back in shape and feeling good about
yourself". Believe it or not, Bob was
once very over weight and that's what
he did.
Richard Sculley, my first friend on the
peninsula and fellow "Area Manager" at
Pay 'n Save. Richard was the captain of
Los Guys and the greatest pool player
that I have ever seen live. It's all about
the "shape" and the "leave". I didn't know
what "9 Ball" was until I met Rich. We got
together and watched "The Hustler" with
Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason, George
C. Scott - the greatest jazz soundtrack!
We took a road trip once to the far
western tip of the peninsula and stopped
for a game of pool and refreshments at a
few taverns along the way. He cold be
down right loco and when those deep
dark eyes of his started to sparkle, look
out and hold on tight!
Tawnya - I still remember exactly where I first saw her and what I was thinking:
Albertson's and YUMMY! And for really one of the few times in my life, my wish was
granted and she and I hooked up. Of course I was a no good son of a bitch boy
friend and by no means deserved to have someone as sweet and loving as her in my
life. But, there was a reason for us then and life goes on.
I loved her hair - curly, curly and curly, sex appeal, laugh (I can hear it), music (Stevie
Nicks) and was attracted to her fragility - yet at the time, I was too immature to provide
security or commitment.
She was such a caring and loving person - amazingly so.
