Here's the scoop on "The Pitch". Unlike some of the other projects
that I had lined up, this idea was new and just came about as a doodle
- sketch. The centerpiece / focal point of the painting is the
two dancers / entertainers on top of the table. They are " The Pitch ".
What they are selling, promoting, marketing is anyone's business,
but they are putting on a show for the folks situated around the
table. From bottom left corner clockwise: the big heavy-set fellow ( just
see the hoof-hands ) is probably the "big cheese"; next is a character
with all sorts of issues ( My kids asked, " what is that thing on the top
of his head ? " ). Why it's a party favor; The "blue" figure is actually
a copy of an image I used in the "Dissolution of Family" painting
( ex-wife ), but in this painting the character is the mysterious
silent type. Next up is the character with the cell phone and not
really paying much attention to the pitch. The character on the
laptop almost out of the picture is me, and most likely updating this website (joke). The bent over fashionably dressed character is chronically
tired. The "twins" - red and yellow triangle heads are actually two characters melded into one; you see, they always have to consult with each
other on everything - cannot make decisions on their own... The vase on the table? I wanted to add something obvious and "stable" to
the setting. My intention behind the background? I utilized a sponge wash process trying to create a sense of open air, space and theater.
To date "The Pitch" is my largest work of art, hangs in my bedroom and entertains me on a daily basis.

“Art to Art”

Where do I start? Continuing my experimentation with the abstract
and the characters within this genre, led me to imagine an art gallery
scene. Once again I sketched characters influenced by geometrical
shapes, with clean edges and “purpose”. The confident one pondering
the picture on the left, two characters in conversation, bystanders in the
foreground speaking softly and a character at rest. I imagined a wall
that was more “art” than the pictures that were to be hung there. My
challenge was to blend something having so much strength, without
overwhelming the space. The blue vase is now a signature element
and is included for fun and balance. The empty pedestal leading into
the "gray zone" is without art - to suggest that something is missing.
The gray zone is a transition area, an area where I sometimes feel lost (limbo), the offset “windows“ set among the gray panels offer a glimpse into
the outside. And interesting how the outside’s appearance can be influenced by how it is projected from the inside. The figures existing the gallery
and into the sea of blue, are myself and my two children; as they walk with me along my journey.

“Lift Me Up”

My “turn it over” project. I’ve incorporated some of my favorite things -
castles, the ocean, clouds, lightening, flowers, birds, butterflies; along
with my creations - Trogger, Bubble Heads, my abstract family, the
abstract “prayer for forgiveness”; and without fanfare, the obligatory
blue vase.
All of us to be lifted up!
My body image includes a:
Blue head ............ Vast and uncertain like the sky
Red heart ............. Beating to all the rhythms of life
Green soul ........... A teardrop of spiritual growth
that falls through the heart
*Striped energy ... Multi-colored bars symbolizing
physical strength
*My daughter thought the stripes would dress the somewhat “naked”
body up (she also assisted with the heart and soul). The piece is telling
for me, as my mind too often dwells in regret and fear. Therefore, I kneel in a bed of gentle hands with a radiant sun at my back; my arms reaching
toward the heavens, as I pray for forgiveness, peace and “green soul” to fill my being.
"SOULdrops *re-entry"

This painting is the continuation of a concept that was first brought to
life in the painting "Lift Me Up" . The SOULdrop and SOULdrop
"Eclipse" images have since become graphic and jewelry designs. It is
my intention to further develop and market this idea into universally
recognized symbols.

Nothing profound here - just pure whimsical fun. Colors and personality staring back at you!

"re-entry" happened in 2006. It was all about
doing a little "touch up" when all hell broke
loose and see, there was this fire. What can I
say, the brush just wanted to be heard, the
emotions of the heart would not be denied.

"Sisters"

Just because "that's what I wanted to do !". I must say that I really
enjoy drawing in the abstract; with its lines, shapes, flow, colors -
limitless possibilities..... and I really needed a fix! How did I come up
with the "sisters"? I was doing some yard work the other day and this
idea of doing two female abstract figures popped into my head.
Originally I held this idea of creating an ebony/ivory color scheme thing.
Actually, I was going to title the piece, "alabaster and onyx" - cool
eh? Then when I got home and actually started the doodling / sketching
process, the female figures just seemed like they wanted to be friends
hanging out - "gal pals" and of course they needed plenty of COLOR!
I've been hip this summer to a lot of girls having fun together and I think
there is something really intriguing about the chemistry going on there.
It's all about sisterhood right? Therefore, I took something I like to do
(drawing in the abstract) and put in a subject that could truly appreciate
the no holds barred playground. It's all about letting loose and having
fun; we're going to do it cause that's what we're going to do and we're
going to do it in style! As this was a whim of a project and I really didn't
have time to mess around with a whim, I set aside most of my acrylics
and utilized my long neglected colored markers. Was strange but fun
and a nice change to be drawing the colors versus painting them. I did
apply acrylic paint with sponge to the background, which is loads of
fun to do and I highly recommend it as a stress reducer. Oh,
and the double foot/boot to go with the triple hand? I must admit that
they were not in the original design and are "cover ups" - yet, they
could be interpreted to indicate movement/action. Hey it's abstract,
it's FUN and it's going to do what it's going to do!

"6 Mile Run"

This is a "snapshot" taken from a run I took. I was about to
the half-way point on a 6 mile run when I came across a person eating
an ice cream cone while driving in a car. It just struck me and I
don't know exactly why, but the scene stayed with me. At the time I
was just starting to "heat up", as the sun had broken through the fog
and I was pushing myself up a hill. When I got to the top, made my
turn to cross over the freeway overpass and start the tail-in of the
loop, there was the car; there was the ice cream! And we made
eye contact, we looked right at one another; that person riding
in comfort while enjoying a frozen confection and me, a person in a
bit of discomfort all the way around. I would say that I did speculate
on what that person was thinking ( because of course I can read
minds); and it was within that speculation that I approached several
different perfect titles for this piece. But after further review (s), I
decided that to simplify the title was best.
